How has 9/11 changed terminal planning?

There is much more focus on all aspects of the safety and security of passengers and baggage processing in terminal areas.  More passengers are checking baggage, which receive a more thorough screening.  In addition, there is a need for additional baggage systems to handle these increased numbers.  These functions will require additional terminal space for baggage processing.
