Land Use Compatibility Guidelines
This graphic shows the noise and land use compatibility guidelines based upon 14 CFR Part 150 regulations. These regulations identify the types of land uses that are compatible with various noise levels. All land uses are compatible with noise levels of 65 DNL or less. Residential land uses and certain noise-sensitive institutional land uses (schools, churches, hospitals, nursing homes, and libraries) are compatible at noise levels between 65 and 75 DNL with sound insulation. At noise levels above 65 DNL, outdoor amphitheaters and music shells, as well as mobile homes, are incompatible because sound insulating these structures is not feasible or effective in reducing noise. Sound insulation may also not be practical for other incompatible residential or institutional structures. At noise levels above 75 DNL or greater, residential land uses and certain noise-sensitive institutional land uses are incompatible.
