Lambert Studies Workshop One

Noise Compatibility Planning

The purpose of the Noise Compatibility Plan is to systematically plan for compatibility between airport noise and neighboring land use.

The process involves defining baseline conditions by mapping noise exposure and impacts as the currently are and as the might be five years from now based on forecasts. It also involves developing solutions/improvements by evaluating potential alternatives, and recommending actions for noise abatement and land use management.

The Airport Authority, the FAA, local governments, airport users and the general public are involved in the study.

The essential elements of the Noise Study are:

Noise Exposure Maps (NEM) which describe the noise levels for existing and future conditions. The future condition should take into account any changes (physical or operational) that may have an effect on the noise levels around the Airport.

Noise Compatibility Program (NCP) provides recommendations for reducing, minimizing, and/or mitigating aircraft noise and land use conflicts. The major topics addressed by the NCP's recommendations could be noise abatement, land use mitigation, and program management measures.

Public Involvement including public workshops and the Planning Advisory Committee.
