SCOPING PROCESSThe proposed replacement airport for Friedman Memorial Airport (SUN) is a Federal action that requires the preparation of an (EIS). The National Environmental Policy Act of 1969 (NEPA) gives all persons, organizations, and government agencies the right to review and comment on proposed Federal actions that are evaluated by an EIS. This is known as the "Scoping Process." The scoping process is the initial step in the preparation of an EIS and is an early and open process to ensure that the full range of issues related to the Proposed Action are addressed and that all significant issues are identified. However, comments received after January 25th were reviewed for inclusion in the overall process. Public and agency scoping meetings were conducted to identify any significant issues associated with the proposed action. Public Meetings were held December 3 and 4, 2007. An agency scoping meeting for all Federal, state, and local regulatory agencies which have jurisdiction by law or have special expertise with respect to any potential environmental impacts associated with the proposed action was held on December 4, 2007.
